Even though they are quoted as having a 6" heel...

6″ heels

Hello hello,

For those of you with “little feet” size US8 and below, are you also dubious of the quoted heel heights, especially in sizes under US9, Euro 39 and China 39. I wear a size 7.5 US/ a 37-38 Euro, depending on the manufacturer and a 37 China.  Quoted 6″ heels in these sizes are usually anywhere from 5.0″ to 5.75″.  The Pleaser Domina, although quoted as being 6″ is actually quite under at 5.5″ and this is in a size 8!!!!

It’s obvious the heel heights are comparative to the sole sizes, so why don’t they just say that in the first place?  Too many people are caught out by this deception every day. For those of you with larger feet, you do get a 6″ heel.  For the even larger sizings, the heel heights are over 6″.  Otherwise they’d look like grannie’s orthopaedics.

“Why get all “excited” about it?” you wonder.  ”It’s only a pair of shoes for godsakes!”

Let me put it this way. If you thought you were buying a product that came with all the bells and whistles it was advertised as having, then to find that there is some “insider knowledge” about that product that means you in particular don’t qualify for all the bells and whistles – even though you paid for them – wouldn’t you be pissed off?  Especially if you took the time to ask all the right questions and be assured by the seller ALL the bells and whistles are standard with your product?

If the seller can’t meet your requirements, isn’t it better they say so, and allow you the chance to shop with somebody who does have a product that meets your requirements? I know we may have forgotten somewhere along the way, but the CUSTOMER really holds the power. It’s just lethargy that stops most of us from doing anything about it.  I know the heights won’t become 6″ because the manufacturing process, lasts and such don’t allow that to happen.  However, it would be nice to be given a heads up so we can choose whether or not we want to put our hard earned, into a product we don’t really want.  (I know. I live in Fairy Land. However the customer has the power  to drive change, I do believe that!)

Some examples of the more “known” brands of heels. Most of these you can find for under $50 at various sellers online:

Even though they are quoted as having a 6" heel...

1/2 size larger, .25" higher - but this differs from style to style :-P

Smaller shoe proportionately higher than the Domina

Keep in mind however, that at a size 9 US and above, the heels of these shoes are probably 6″. I’ve learned from experience and have almost given up finding the type of shoes I want to wear, for sale.  Companies that make a true 6″ heel on smaller sizes – such as Italian Heels [oh don't go anywhere near that subject] – are very rare.

I have a pair of Dominas here in a size 8 and they are definitely NOT 6″ high.  I relegated them to the back of the dark cupboard because I was so disappointed.   Anyone can walk in 5″ heels… :-(

Have a great day

See you soon

Suzanne

  1. I find it amusing you consider 5″ so short “anyone can wear them”! I haven’t yet met a woman who owns a single pair of 5″ heels that don’t have a big platform… 4″ is considered super high. If only they were all like you, that’d be a wonderful world… :)

    • I’ve been really spoiled with shoes for a while, but I’m fast finding this anomaly existing in the higher priced “hand made” shoes as well. Companies like Rosa and Di-Marni make heels that are in general usable for all women and I don’t deny them that claim either.

4″ shoes without a platform look like granny shoes to me. I have a warped view compared to the general population I know.

My 5-5.75″ heels are used as “run abouts” – when I have my son with me and we are in say, a shopping mall. I can’t manage his special needs in super high heels. I have to dress down – meaning the heels are lower and the outfits are more casual.

However, there is nothing like being in a high heeled shoe, a super high heel, dressed to compliment them and being able to walk in them as if they don’t matter…it’s such a feeling of absolute power. Amazing.

Just have to make sure I don’t go tripping over.

Now, that is not a good look!!!
      :-)

  2. have you any feedback, experience on RoSa heels?

    • Hi. No I haven’t at all. I was going to order a pair to give them a try but ran out of funds. Maybe later on in the year. They look very nice but I guess you can tell I really give these fetish shoes a hell of a beating!!!

  3. Your thoughts are correct about heel heights and sizing especially between Ellie and Pleaser in the USA.
Strange that they are all mage in China.
The difference between four inch heels and five inch is the cut and shape of the shoe, that I agree look terrible in four inch as they seem to lack in imagination

  4. Hi Heely,

Keep up the good work. My partner agrees with you, if a height is given that is what should arrive and rarely does. She also likes Italian heels and has melted many of my banks cards with them :)

Still cant complain, she like you looks great in them, for her the limit is the 100cm which in her size is very high.

I quite like her pair denim boots again from Italian Heels , they look great with a skirt or dress. No idea of the exact measurement of the heel on them for her size. All I know is, she and them together look great.

    Best wishes

  5. Hi Suzanne,

My boyfriend bought me some ballet boots a couple of weeks ago (we have both been commenting on your various articles, thanks for the responses so far). I’m getting pretty good at walking now, but I mainly just love wearing nice shoes. It has re-ignited my passion for lovely shoes, however I am a size 9 or 10 (depending on brand and type of shoe) and find it very hard to find nice shoes with heels, can you suggest anywhere to buy? I’d prefer to buy from a store so I can try first (I’m in Melbourne, Australia) but happy to try online shopping.

    Thanks,

    Claire

    • Any of the “decent” heels I own have been bought online. However I notice even the extreme heel makers are opting for platforms – even with 12cm heels!!! I can wholly recommend ROSA SHOES ; Di-Marni Heels and I can’t leave the style alone – Fillipa by Italian Heels. The Highest Heel used to have some great looking shoes, but they’ve fallen to platform styles as well. If you want Aussie – try the brand Siren but I find better looking shoes at the outlet malls from this brand. For some reason most Aussie brands are just buying the same old crap out of China and branding it with their name. .

THanks again for reading and chatting away with me.
      :-D
